The Left Is Lying About Alexander Smirnoff

The Smirnov affair does not effect Laptopgate in any way.
Four years after the 51 former intelligence officials lied about Hunter's laptop, an unrelated dude is accused of unrelated shenanigans...and the should-have-been-disgraced intelligence officials who lied to help get Biden elected are pretending that it justifies their "mistake."
   Nauseating.

Turley: The Indictment of Alexander Smirnov Does Not Exonerate Hunter Biden

In fact, it's completely irrelevant, so far as I can tell.
Turley agrees, and knows more about it.
This is just a completely unrelated incident that leftoids are pretending (a) is evidence for TEH RUZZIAN COLLUZZION and (b) exonerates Hunter Biden.
They will never, ever give up "Russian collusion." They're also reviving it to "explain" Trump's utterances about Putin, and about NATO.
But the Russian collusion hoax is, well, a hoax. A Democrat hoax. It is not true. It is not for real. It was long ago torpedoed. Eg by Robert Mueller, formerly the greatest and most trustworthy investigator of all time...until he concluded there was no there there...
There's a better chance of the wingnuts giving up the election fraud / stolen election dogma than there is of the moonbats giving up their sweet, sweet Russian collusion... I mean, after all, THEY SHARED INTERNAL POLLING DATA!!!!!
My God, we are a stupid country...

MSNBC Discovers That Some White Supremacist Nazi Racist Bigot "Christian Nationalist" Americans Think We Were Endowed by Our Creator With Certain Inalienable Rights

Divine fiat views of morality don't work. But Jefferson's rhetorical (?) gesture was probably meant as an acknowledgement that rights don't depend on human whims. Human fiat views are even dumber than divine fiat views.
Anyway:

[This reminds me of N.O.W. borking Bork by holding a press conference at which the wide-eyed, uncomprehending NOWists repeated over and over that BORK BELIEVED IN NATURAL LAW!!!!1111
Asked repeatedly by reporters what this meant, they could only rearrange the words, because they had no idea what natural law theory is. "He, uh...believes that law is...natural...that...uh...there are natural laws...natural law is...a thing he believes in..."]

[Also don't miss the heavily coached and choreographed hand gestures of the MSDNC newsbabe.]

Chest Secretions of Men Taking Female Hormones "Just As Good" As Breast Milk

A few malnourished babies is a small price to pay to support The Narrative(tm).
Of course this means actual human beings facing whole life trajectories less good than they could easily--and would normally--have been. I mean, sorry that you're likely to be smaller, less intelligent, and less healthy along the whole trajectory of your life, kid...sorry that you're being reduced to a mere means, a prop in someone else's sexual fetish...but transwomen are women, bigot! "Chestfeeding" rights are human rights!
   Lysenkoism is a helluva drug.

Needless to say, if you think these male nipple secretions are "just as good" for babies as breast milk, you're living in the left's fantasy world. There is exactly no chance that's true.

Trump Crushes Haley in SC

Heels 54 - Hoos 44

Historically my favorite matchup of the ACC season...and I still love me some Heels-Hoos action. And, of course, I recognize Bennett's coaching chops. But I just don't much care for the style of play. Much more fun back in the Dean-Holland days...but that goes without saying.
Carolina was working on an 8-game losing streak at JPJ, stretching back to 2012. So it was good to get the dub.
Props to Cormac Ryan who hit 6/11 threes and 18 points total. I love seeing his shot start to fall.

Judith Curry: There's a Climate-Change Industry Set Up to Reward Alarmism

You can see this even from the outside.
I had a discussion with a colleague this week, and he seemed to think that this proposition is refuted (with respect to a given discipline) if not everyone in that discipline is ideologically captured. That sounds like a straw man, but I think his thesis came pretty close to that one. But obviously that isn't true. There are degrees of bias, degrees of ideological capture...I'd bet that no discipline has ever been ideologically captured in that sense--in the sense that every practitioner is a true believer of whatever set of ideas is in question. But if an orthodoxy is established, in large part because it is politically correct, and/or if a significant percentage of influential people in the discipline are swayed by politics, and/or if a significant percentage of practitioners are so swayed, and e.g. a significant percentage go along for careerist reasons, and e.g. a significant percentage of dissenters keep quiet out of fear (or prudence)...well, that's ideological capture...

The Lies About Trump Keep on Rollin' In: NATO Edition

This is a repeating pattern with respect to Trump and his furious detractors:
Trump says something dopey or imprudent...or, for that matter, something pretty ordinary.
His detractors then lie about it, converting it into something stupid/crazy/evil/etc.
Trump did not say that he would not defend NATO per Article 5. Rather, he was semi-bullshitting about how he got them to pony up for the 2% of GDP defense spending that they'd pledged to do. What he actually said is recounted elsewhere, and I'm too lazy to look it up now.
This repeatedly raises the question: if he's so awful, why do you have to lie about almost everything he says?
Trump's imprudent crappery generally moves my irritation needle a few notches one way...then his detractors come along and spread nefarious lies about what he actually said, swinging the needle back even farther in the other direction.

Carolina 76 - Clemson 80

So I guess letting Clemson win in Chapel Hill is just a thing now...

Wow. The Heels really just crapped the bed tonight. Worse even than the Tech loss. Two losses to teams with a combined total of 7-15 in the ACC. One of those losses at home... Gotta be worried about Ryan's and Cadeau's shooting. On the bright side: Ingram's not injured. Can't win 'em all, of course...but just not a good performance tonight.

John H. Cochrane: Incompetent [Delusional, Condescending] Elites Make Trump Look Appealing

link
The left, of course, now loves democracy but hates populism. But populism, characterized as opposition to elites and/or elite rule, is not inherently bad. Its goodness or badness depends on the character of the elites at the relevant time. And our political and cultural elites are largely delusional and incompetent--and incompetent largely because they're delusional. Yes, they claim more expertise than they actually possess--not always, but often. But the real problem is that they've allowed postpostmodern progressive politics to infect not only their political judgments, but their nonpolitical ones as well. It's bad enough that e.g. psychology and medicine have lent their credibility (such as remains) to gender ideology and the brainwashing and sexual mutilation of children...but they even allowed it to infect their judgments about COVID, which ought to have been very far-removed from politics. Pushing weird sexual and quasi-sexual weirdness...well...that's just what the left does now... But pushing/enforcing not only mask mandates and vax mandates, but the left's terminological preferences about virus-naming? And declaring that church services were verboten, but BLM riots were just fine? You couldn't make that up. (And, note: if the argument had been: church services should be held outside, too...that would have been different. But the argument was, rather: "systemic racism" is so dangerous that protests against it are so important that blah blah blah...)
   Anyway.
Yeah, there's a cult of Trump. Absolutely. There are people who simply will not hear a bad word spoken about him. Not denying it. I think they're as crazy as you do. They're off their collective nut.
However, most Trump supporters support him reluctantly, and do so only because they judge--probably correctly, IMO--that the other guys are worse.
I'd add to the Cochrane piece: the combination of (a) patent lunacy, (b) incompetence, and (c) condescension toward ordinary people...I mean seriously. Fuck that. To be looked down on disdainfully by a group of ludicrous, addlepated elites religiously devoted to a laughably absurd, crackpot religion they just picked up last Tuesday... Any reasonable person must be revolted.

Rusty Bowers on Trump's Attempt to Steal the Election

I am, to say the least, unimpressed by Trump's defense that he realio, trulio believed a stupid thing. It seems like a legit legal defense. It's also absolutely disqualifying for the Presidency. It'd probably be better if he were lying and consciously violating the Constitution. At least that wouldn't show that he wasn't minimally rational. I might be more inclined to vote for a minimally rational traitor than for someone delusional. At least you might be able to reason with the former--eg appeal to his self-interest. But someone who just believes what's convenient...what can you do?
