Judith Curry: There's a Climate-Change Industry Set Up to Reward Alarmism

You can see this even from the outside.
I had a discussion with a colleague this week, and he seemed to think that this proposition is refuted (with respect to a given discipline) if not everyone in that discipline is ideologically captured. That sounds like a straw man, but I think his thesis came pretty close to that one. But obviously that isn't true. There are degrees of bias, degrees of ideological capture...I'd bet that no discipline has ever been ideologically captured in that sense--in the sense that every practitioner is a true believer of whatever set of ideas is in question. But if an orthodoxy is established, in large part because it is politically correct, and/or if a significant percentage of influential people in the discipline are swayed by politics, and/or if a significant percentage of practitioners are so swayed, and e.g. a significant percentage go along for careerist reasons, and e.g. a significant percentage of dissenters keep quiet out of fear (or prudence)...well, that's ideological capture...
