DeVos: 1619 Project Is Not History

God bless Betsy DeVos.

You could say: well, it's history...just really awful history...

But it's probably more accurate to say: it's not history, it's politics. 

DeVos stumbles when responding to the clip from the other woman--but what she's trying to say is right. The other woman is pretending that the 1619 project merely says that the first slave ship came to North America in 1619. Which is a lie. Not that that's when the first slave ship came...that's just apparently false. But not a lie. It's a lie that that's all the 1619 project says. It has virtually nothing to do with that date, and virtually nothing to do with whether it was the first ship. "The 1619 Project" isn't quite as tricky a name as "Black Lives Matter"... the latter is far, far more misleading than the former. But the woman in the video clip is using the former in a way that makes it similarly misleading.
