Ender's Game: Has Everyone Gone Mad?

Look, no matter how you slice it, Ender's Game is not the third best sci-fi/fantasy book of all time...

It is not better than 1984. It is not better than I, Robot. It is not better than Starship Troopers. IT IS NOT BETTER THAN DUNE...

I don't think it belongs on that list at all...

WTF humans?????

[Edit: And The Name of the Wind????  Seriously? Not number 20. No. Nononononono. Not number 50. Nor 80. Nor 101... Come on!]

As much as I can't stand OSC, Ender's Game really is that good to belong on that list.

I generally don't like SF (and I hate dystopias) but I devoured Ender's Game, whilst getting through even Asimov was a huge struggle for me.

I'll make occasional forays into SF, because my husband loves it, my Dad loves it, and even my Grandmother liked SF. But for the most part I can't get into it.

But Ender's Game is one of the few straight up SF books I read and enjoyed.

That in and of itself earns it a place in the top ten, since I know I'm not the only non-SF reader to have loved it (at the time. Now? OSC makes me too twitchy to read anything of his.)

Dune? Couldn't stand it. Loved Hitchhiker's Guide, but for the comedy more than the SF. Read Watchmen and understood that it was very good, but didn't enjoy the experience at all. Loved Stephenson's "Cryptonomicon" but have never been able to get into "Snow Crash", which is supposed to be the better work.

Handmaid's Tale, Canticle for Leibowitz? I understand why they are very good, but I'd rather be stabbed in the thigh with a fork rather than read them again.

So, essentially, I do think Ender's Game belongs there, because it's able to draw in non-SF people.

And if it weren't for the fact that I can't get past OSC being a douche canoe, I'd read it again, now.
