"A Belief In Meritocracy Is Not Only False, It's Bad For You"
Bullshit.
Basically the only thing right in there is stuff everybody already knows: that people have different degrees of advantage and disadvantage, and that luck matters quite a bit. No one with more than half a brain thinks that merit is the only determining factor of success. I don't think a normal can reach the age of 40 without recognizing the lots of people are luckier than you are and lots are less-lucky.
Merit matters a lot. Chance matters--often a lot. Some people have small advantages other than merit and luck. Some have big ones. Some have small disadvantages. Some have big ones.
But anyone who thinks that merit doesn't matter a lot is full of shit.
Meritocracy is yet another target of the progressive left--belief in it, you see, is racist...according to my university's tutoring center, among others. So there's not much reason to pay attention to screeds against it. They're mostly not driven by evidence, but by political preference.
Oh and: get back to me about those bullshit psychological studies when they've been replicated.
