Another Snapshot Of The Trump Wars: David Remnick, "The Preexisting Condition In The Oval Office"
Off the top of my head, this seems like another good snapshot of the Trump wars.
I know this is ridiculous...but I'm going to say it anyway: a snapshot of the snapshot: The New Yorker thinks you have to put the diaresis mark in 'preexisting'... Shutting up about that now.
Remnick is just right about a lot--the part that I fret about most is Trump's apparent tendency to surround himself with yes-men. He needs a red team more than anyone else I've ever seen. But, of course, one could go on and on about Trump's apparently weaknesses.
But Remnick, like the rest of la Resistance, isn't content to bemoan the real pandemic and criticize the real Trump. Both must be made worse than they actually are. The worst thing about the former being, of course, its inequity. The one where it affects blacks more, of course. Not the one where it kiss twice as many men.
He compares national responses using total deaths, of course, not death rates. Because denominators--how do they work...?

He writes:
...many nations, from South Korea to Germany, have done far better at responding to it than the United States has.
Rephrasing: many nations--from like the one that has done the very best to the one that has done the second-best--have done "far" better than Trump...I mean...the U.S....
And on and on.
Here's something much better qua criticism of Trump:
Andy Borowitz, "Fauci Refuses To Say When It Would Be Safe To Reopen Trump's Mouth."
