I continue to be concerned about this.
OTOH, basing legal immigration more on merit sounds worth considering.
Predictably, the blue team says something dumb in response: the word 'merit' is condescending, you see. And then there's:

"Are they saying most of the people who have ever come to the United Sates ... are without merit because they don't have an engineering degree?"

Implication, how does it work?
