Debate Going Badly

Goddamn it.

Half an hour in, and Romney is kicking Obama's ass.

Obama is just not good in these things.

Romney, the smug sonofabitch, really got a big advantage by just lying about his tax plan. It really seemed to throw Obama off.

Goddamn it.

You managed to discern an ass-kicking out of this mess? I have been so busy trying to keep track of the bajillion different points being made and the near-total disregard for Lehrer that, honestly, I can't tell if either is doing well.

One thing I did notice, however, like you, is that Romney seems to be completely remaking his policy proposals on the spot. I'm starting to wonder wtf is going on.

I hate to post three consecutive times, but it looks like the vast majority agree with you; Romney mopped the floor with Obama. I even think I lip-read Obama saying to Romney at the end "I think you won."

My only hope is that fact checkers destroy Romney for this. He seemed to latch onto solid but minor critiques of Obama's policies and act as though they were representative of their entirety. He seemed to just lie assertively to defuse Obama's critiques of his plans, and Obama didn't know where to go if he couldn't pursue those valid points.

The finale, when Obama declared that he hadn't been perfect, sure sounded like he admitted defeat, though.

Damn it. My reaction to this was a lot more tepid than yours and others'. Now I'm starting to worry. I think you're right thet he was owned when it comes to debate-land. However, unless I'm completely misinformed, which would be scary (to me), I really do think attention to fact checking will ruin Romney in the real world. He seems to have lied about his tax plan, The Affordable Care Act's savings on Medicare (that $716 billion 'taken' from Medicare), bipartisanship on behalf of the President, etc.

I dunno. I just don't know.
