EDF: Quit Burning Tropical Forests And Set Up Carbon Markets
I went into this with an open mind, but there's not much of an argument there. I agree methane seems like a good thing to target--it also degrades into CO2, which the author neglects to mention. But how cost-effective is methane recovery? We're not told. Not here, anyway.
Not burning tropical forests sounds good to me. Hey, who could disagree? And cap and trade / carbon markets...sounds like a non-crazy solution...though it raises energy costs, which has widespread, negative economic effects. OTOH: it provides incentives for fossil fuel companies to address the relevant externalities. Anyway, all that's my understanding, but it seems plausible.
Anyway. Not dismissing this out of hand...there's just not much there.
