The fashion piece really is an illustrative snapshot of the contemporary American left. 

One might object that it's not--it's an exceptionally stupid and frivolous story produced by a newspaper that is now merely a propaganda outlet, and features the most brainlessly extreme of the brainlessly extreme...

(The picture of the herb girls posing dramatically with their magic herbs is actually worth the price of admission...)

Yeah but: if you want to capture the spirit and ideals of the motivating/animating sector of progressivism...well, there it is in that story.
