"I Don't Want An Investigation" Of Biden Allegations, "I Want A Coronation;" Anti-Trumpism Trumps "#MeToo" Hysteria...And Ordinary Decency
Contemporary progressivism in yet another nutshell...
When charges are against conservatives, they are to be believed immediately, on no evidence, even despite counterevidence. (See: to Kavanaugh.)
When they are against progressives--important progressives, anyway--they are to be ignored.
As always, it's worth noting that this isn't necessarily what the average progressive in the street believes...or...well...is it? I mean, if things don't get cleared up before the election, and they vote for Biden anyway...that means what?
Well, as I'm always saying, these choices are largely comparative. Someone who accepts the worst theory of Trump, and who genuinely thinks that progressivism is on the right track (or, at least, that it's innocuous) could easily reason that, in the absence of real proof, it's more important to get Trump out. Tolchin seems a bit nutty (as is the bullshit distinction between founding and launching), but this basic line of reasoning is ok, so far as I can tell. But it does mean giving up the "believe all women" nonsense. Which is already being reinterpreted as "believe women," which in turn is being reinterpreted as "listen to women." Whether those reinterpretations will stick when it's not a Democratic presidential candidate who's at issue...who can say?
