Dreher On Douthat On The French-Ahmari Dust-Up On The Right

link
I like mentioning things I've been right about, and one of them is: Trump has made the left go even crazier, and an even-crazier left is generating some chatter on the right that ought to be of concern to any liberals who might still exist out there. We folk ought to be more inclined to be sympathetic to wimpy, irenic Frenchianism that's inclined to accept some kind of liberal ideal of political neutrality with respect to conceptions of the good. Ahmari seems to be arguing that that's a losing position, that it basically guarantees the victory of a left that has been conquered by identity politics, and which is, therefore, increasingly radical and illiberal. And the way to stop this is to return to a politics associated with a substantial conception of the good--in particular, a conservative/Christian conception.
This dust-up on the right ought to be of interest to everybody, I'd think.
