Ben Shapiro Challenges Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez To Debate: She Says It's Analogous To Catcalling

...and maybe even hints at something darker...
Not clear what she meant by the "bad intentions" line.
   Her response is completely unconnected to the facts. She could simply refuse, as is undeniably her right. Instead, she deploys the go-to progressive move: accuse Shapiro of *-ism (in this case: misogyny/sexual harassment).
   It's just one case...but it it's just like thousands upon thousands of other cases. It's like a nonstop geyser of crackpottery over there. There's stupid and crazy across the political spectrum. But there's just so much of it on the progressive left, and it's just so blatant. This isn't one or two cases of nuttiness. This is a pervasive tendency toward laughable, almost unbelievable lunacy. What Ocasio-Cortez tweets simply makes no sense whatsoever. They've become the left-wing analog of the religious right--from back when the RR was feeling its oats, back in the '80s or so.

Are you sure tou have the timeline correct? More likely:
Ocasio refuses
Ocasio gets called a coward
Ocasio explains that she doesnt owe Shapiro anything, any more than she owes a catcaller.
If Shapiro wants to debate Ocasio, he can move to NY and run against her as the Republican candidate. His offer is certainly not entirely in good faith.

I don't think I see your point, PM...

How does that change anything? She's free to tell Shapiro to fuck off if she wants to. But how is the catcalling analogy justified? Seems like just more PC bullshitting. Why...this challenge to debate the issues is basically rhetoric-rape!

She was getting called a coward for turning down the "opportunity", which of course she did because she is not stupid. She is trying to point out that she doesnt owe Shapiro anything. There arr probably better analogies than catcalling, but it is not really bad: you can't expect to gain the attention of a stranger just by making noise

Yeah, I totally agree that she has no obligation to debate Shapiro. And I don't see what she has to gain from it.

I'm certainly not saying that she's wrong about everything, nor that the left is wrong about everything...

But the catcalling analogy... It's not that it's just not very good (though, perhaps, not terrible).

It's that it's bad in that way characteristic of the contemporary left.

Phase I: piously insist that x is The Very Worst And Most Horrible Thing Ever.

Phase II: drunkenly accuse everyone in sight of x--either stupidly or, more often, as a shitty political tactic to win points.

Inaccurate is one thing. Inaccurate and slanderous is another. Inaccurate, slanderous, and either dishonestly or delusionally assimilating x to something you consider a sex crime is a third thing.

Shit's messed up, yo.

She didn't even have to answer. If she did answer, she was entitled to answer in a number of different ways. She wasn't entitled to answer in this way.

Just nutty.

Except she didn't say catcalling is the very worst and most horrible thing. She just said that she doesnt need to give Shapiro the time of day any more than she would a catcaller.

(She also could have pointed out that a donation to a campaign of more than $2700 is illegal.)

This just in:

The Centers for Disease Control issued Friday a notice warning that OCDS, a dangerous brain infection, is spreading rapidly in several communities in the Midwest and in major coastal cities. Affecting primarily affluent whites, this epidemic causes severe psychological and neurological symptoms in those affected, and the prognosis is grim. The worst affected have been reduced to drooling vegetables in a matter of weeks, and even the milder cases show signs of long term damage, consequences that can include persistent obsessions and delusions and in some cases full-blown Nazism.

Standing for Ocasio-Cortez Derangement Syndrome, OCDS is thought to be a virulent strain evolved from HDS and ODS, which have been pandemic among American whites since 2016 and 2008, respectively. OCDS first emerged following the June 26, 2018 New York State congressional primaries, afflicting conservative pundits and assorted trumpies before beginning its rapid spread.

The CDC warns to keep an eye on oneself and loved ones for any of the following early signs and symptoms:

* Obsessive thoughts
* Foaming at the mouth
* Dizziness
* Shortness of breath
* Chest pain
* New or worsening conservatism
* New or worsening anti-Hispanic bigotry
* New or worsening McCarthyism
* New or worsening misogyny
* Nazism

Known risk factors are similar to those for heart attack, stroke, and skin cancer and include smoking, obesity, conservative political views, paler skin tone, affluent lifestyle, misogyny, a history of voting Republican and/or attending Trump rallies, and especially, advancing age, pre-existing ODS or HDS, pre-existing bigotry especially against Hispanic-Americans, and deplorability. Those with three or more of the above risk factors or any one of the last four are advised to immediately seek the advice of a physician regarding the dangers of OCDS and prevention, testing, and treatment options.

OCDS is not known to have spread beyond the borders of the United States of America at this time.

You're just wrong on this one, PM.

When my intentional hyperbole is what you're trying to criticize, it's time to reassess.

tl;dr, DA.

Perhaps you're actually thinking of BSDS?

Just to keep score:

Still looking for:
Someone willing to seriously argue that:

(a) Challenging someone to a debate is like catcalling

and/or

(b) AOC can make that argument without being a big fat hypocrite.

Don’t see why she owes him a debate.

Different host population and symptomatic presentation, Winston. It’s more of a Chronic condition, especially in people under the age of 40.

She doesn't owe him a debate.

Nobody--anywhere--ever--said she owed him a debate.

Look, this is not a complicated point. She has no obligation to debate him. But to say that challenging someone to a debate is analogous to catcalling is (a) idiotic and (b) nuts.

It's an open-and-shut case. There's really no question about it.
