Syria: The Credibility Argument

Will we lose credibility if we fail to strike Syria?

I never know what to think of such arguments... We'll lose some credibility no matter what we do here, I'd say. Is anyone seriously trying to figure out which course of action will cost us more credibility? Or, for that matter, the relative value of lost credibility and the other things that we stand to lose or gain?
