Is it really surprising?
I remember back in the day seeing "Some open minds should be closed for repair" on some muffler shop's marquee.
And I remember you seeing a bumpersticker with the quote "God said it, I believe it, and that settles it." or some such.
Not exactly a progressive sort of community. I can just imagine what it was like in the 60's.
I'm just waiting for someone to interview a prominent Christian about that Koran burning preacher man so that I can hear a Christian be all like "I don't know why Muslims hate us, we're not all like that!"
And the circle of ignorance will be complete.
