Free Republic Founder Et Up By The Stupid

So, the founder of Free Republic, Jim Robinson, is calling for millions of people to march on Washington. This will, apparently, allow him to throw out the results of the last election, kick Obama, Biden, and all senators and representatives out of office. He'll also get rid of the 16th and 17th amendments as well as Roe v. Wade. He'll make Hillary Clinton president.

I am, hard as it is to believe, not making this up.

Eight years of Bush and Cheney running the country into a ditch and not a peep from these people. Six months of Obama trying to clean up the mess, and they're calling for revolution. The stupid is often indistinguishable from the crazy...

I'm actually genuinely shocked that that writing is as outrageous as it is. It's pretty frank about the author's desire to oust our current government. He keeps saying that he wants to do it "peacefully" but the changes he intends to effect cannot come about through mere peaceful marching. No peaceful march is going to result in amendments being repealed and a new government being instantiated. What, is the current government going to go "Wow, look at all the people just standing there peacefully! Guess we have to let them alter the laws of the land and take over..."?

Honestly, it looks like something the FBI might not take too lightly. Inciting revolution is rarely looked upon leniently.

I must also say that the quality of the reasoning and rhetoric is pretty comical. Between the claims which can only be called groundless and delusional (how is it that the Obama administration has "virtually unlimited powers over the citizens"?) and the grammatical errors, it's impossible to take the thing seriously.

What disturbs me the most, however, is how perfectly suited to the Bush administration one finds most of the critique. Is the author so delusional that he thinks the Bush administration was undeserving of any questioning of its rampant abuses of the people, the Constitution, and our rights to Life, Liberty, and the pursuit of Happiness, but the Obama administration's short employment is enough to call for revolution?

You're right, man. The stupid and the crazy are hard to separate sometimes. It's really remarkable and frightening that there are people out there who are this impassioned with falsity. There's simply no telling what they might do with such rabid fervor. The only certainty we have is that people like this will not listen to reason.

And with that, we're stuck just sitting and watching the crazies, hoping they don't actually do something crazy. It's an interesting rock and a hard place our society has wrought.

Yup. Saw this coming. It'll get worse before it gets better.

Wingnuts only accept the results of elections that go their way.

I guess you missed the part where Hillary becomes president.

Quite honestly, I think it's something the FBI will take very lightly.

No, I saw that bit about the Secretary of State...which made almost less sense than the rest of it. I guess it's supposed to be some kind of homage to the early days of the Republic when the SoS was the heir apparent to the presidency?

Man, the right sure does hate Obama if he's enough to make them like Hillary...

Yeah, I can't see the FBI...or anyone else...taking this very seriously.

It's just possible that the enmity is for the president's policies and not hate for the man himself, who's eminently more likable than his Secretary of State.

The president is plummeting in the polls, and that's not due to batshit crazy birthers, since they were against him from the start.

I love that "the president is plummeting in the polls" talking point.

Actually, he's coming down off of highs that no one could be expected to sustain. But, more importantly, IMHO, poll numbers go down when things are bad (unless it's a security crisis, when they're likely to go up) and it almost doesn't matter what the president is doing. Most people don't even know much about what's happening, much less why. They don't grade him on how likely his policies are to do good, but rather on whether good things are actually happening. Even the disastrous Dubya would probably have retained non-disastrous poll numbers if his terrible policies had had happened to have decent outcomes.

Obama will keep sliding in the polls as long as the economy is bad--which will be awhile yet, at best.

Personally, I've always thought that he was always likely to be a one-term president, largely because things are likely to be too screwed up to turn around quickly enough. If McCain/Palin had been less disastrous, and things had been less awful, I would have half-wished for M/P to win so the GOP could reap what it sowed...but only half.

Undoubtedly there are some who genuinely understand and object to Obama's policies...but that's a small percentage of his slide in the polls.

Not a talking point. The drop has nothing to do with birthers or other batshit crazy types, is all, who were always against him.

Dunno. You'd have to ask Democrats and independents, because that's where the drop is coming from.

Well, aside from the point here being irrelevant to the post, and aside from the fact that that's not what the linked story says, and aside from the fact that nothing there is incompatible with what I've said...er...well, I guess there's nothing left...

Of course I'm not a good guy to talk to, since I don't give a rat's ass about polls. (I did think it was funny when Bush finally became as unpopular as he deserved to be, though...)

So, anyway, see previous comment.

Sorry, you had to follow the links infra.

Anyway, we'll see. You maintain the public's unhappier because of the lack of results on the economy, I'd say it's alarm at the president's proposals and the [perceived] haste in pushing them through.

But I'm glad we're not alarmed that Free Republic is going to stage an armed revolution. Or at least most of us aren't.

For the record, I'm opposed.
