McCain
Inciting Violence?
Sullivan.
I've been getting fairly concerned. Of course the McCain camp is not saying: perpetrate violence! Rather, what they're doing is spinning out a fantasy about how evil Obama is. They are, in essence, trying to convince people of the truth of a series of premises which, if actually believed, would lend at least some support to conclusions of approximately this form: truly patriotic Americans should be willing to employ violence to prevent an Obama presidency.
I do not believe that the McCain camp intends to incite violence, but that is the wrong measure here. Violence is a forseeable consequence of their words and actions.
I have some inclination to believe that concern about this may not constitute mere alarmism.
