Despair and Denial In the Unreality-Based Community
K-L0 and Her Readers Edition

There is no joy over at the Corner this morn.

Boy, nothing makes me feel like more of an ass than to get a charge out of other people's misery. But let's face it, these people deserve it.

The summary:
Lopez prints a letter from one of her readers containing the following points:

1. McCain has lost the election.
2. But he has succeeded in an indirect way for, just as Ford gave us Reagan, McCain has given us Palin, who, along with Romney, is the next Reagan. See, they're both the next Reagan. Oh, and so is Jindal. (As I've mentioned before, just about everybody who does anything notable on the other side of the aisle is Reagan anymore.)
3. Rush is right
4. The next four years will be economic hell--hell--because Obama does not understand working families.
5. But that might be the last Democratic administration we have to endure in our lives, so it'll be worth it.
6. Then Palin--did I mention that she's the next Reagan?--will bring a new golden age.

Lopez adds that she isn't ready to give up yet. Why? Because Obama said "A lot of you remember the tragedy of 9/11." But (a) this suggests that some people don't remember it...which makes Obama bad. And it wasn't a tragedy, it was an act of war. (Note to K-L0: it was both.) So this alone shows that Obama is BAD and WRONG.

These people.

These sad, sad, pathetic, ridiculous people

It's not enough for them to disagree with us...it's not enough that they've utterly dominated American politics for at least the last 7.5 years. They can't stand to lose, they can't stand to lose even once, they can't stand to lose even when they have utterly screwed things up, and even when their candidate is clearly inferior. They demand to win every time, no matter how badly they've done, no matter how loathsome their candidate. And if that requires that they spin out complex fantasies about the whole process, then so be it.

Sad. Sad and pathetic.

Embrace the schadenfreude. It's one of the few joys of middle age that's not just a watered down joy of youth. ;->

Some teachings would say that this is a victory:

Mongol General: Hao! Dai ye! We won again! This is good, but what is best in life?

Mongol: The open steppe, fleet horse, falcons at your wrist, and the wind in your hair.

Mongol General: Wrong! Conan! What is best in life?

Conan: To crush your enemies, see them driven before you, and to hear the lamentation of the women.

Mongol General: That is good! That is good.

on the other hand Savid Brooks, Peggy Noonsn and Kathleen Parker(!) have come out against Sarah Palin, more or less arguing that she is a dog-whistling Know-Nothing. So perhaps it's a teachable moment for the republicans.

Right. Sadly, I think they have to be more numerous and forceful to make a real difference.

But I could be wrong, and some is better than none.
