Do Something. Your Country Needs You.
This is not me badgering you. This is me chiming in in harmony with the voice of your better self. You know your country needs you. You know that the Bush administration has been a disaster the scope of which we can barely comprehend. You have good reason to believe that a McCain presidency will largely be cut from the same mold. You have no doubt that a Palin presidency would be a disaster beyond the telling of it.
And you know that you can and should do something about it.
If you're like me, money is tight and time is tighter. But the voice of your better self, that little angel on your shoulder, has been nagging you: send a check...volunteer...do something...
Here I am, telling you what you already know:
Your country needs you
You have the power
It's time to do the right thing
Contact your local office--go on down. I know that as a country we're rather shy about this sort of thing, but these are Democrats, and Obamaphiles at that. You'll fit right in, you'll make new friends, and you'll be glad you went. You'll leave with that little glow of satisfaction at having done something for your country. And if you go down to the HQ once, you'll want to go again.
We are going to win this thing, but only if we all pitch in.
It's in your hands.
Don't let us down.

Amen, brother Winston!
More moral-boosting, about what the Obama campaign has been doing these months:
First, a moderately long piece from The Seminal.
Second, a piece at Time magazine.
Or, check out this piece in the NYT stating:
In several states, including the traditional battlegrounds of Nevada and Iowa, Democrats have surprised their own party officials with significant gains in registration. In both of those states, there are now more registered Democrats than Republicans, a flip from 2004. No states have switched to the Republicans over the same period, according to data from 26 of the 29 states in which voters register by party. (Three of the states did not have complete data.)
[F]or a shift away from one party to sustain itself — the current registration trend is now in its fourth year — is remarkable, researchers who study voting patterns say. And though comparable data are not available for the 21 states where voters do not register by party, there is evidence that an increasing number of voters in those states are also moving away from the Republican Party based on the results of recent state and Congressional elections, the researchers said.
Thousands of Americans are with WS investing their time to help our nation. As Lee told the Army of Northern Virginia after the death of Jackson, "We must all do more than formerly." Together, we can save our nation.
Thanks for the morale boost, Jim. Much appreciated.
"We must all do more than formerly"--very nice.
I'll be on the Central Coast of California to housesit for Professor Avenger, while he and the step-mom go on a cruise.
This would the right thing to do while I'm there and when I get back to Gopher Prairie, CA.
I've been involved in political work since I was 13 years old, and that was in the 1972 campaign, which was hopeless from the Democratic side, unlike now.
For all of us:
Victor Laszlo: Welcome back to the fight. This time I know our side will win.
