All Best Thoughts to the Mighty Brits

What can one say about such a thing? I certainly don't know. I do wonder, however, who these crazy islamofascist bastards think they are dealing with. May I remind them that these are the folk who stood alone against Hitler's empire? Who shrugged off the Blitz?

A wee history lesson:

"...We shall go on to the end, we shall fight in France, we shall fight on the seas and oceans, we shall fight with growing confidence and growing strength in the air, we shall defend our Island, whatever the cost may be, we shall fight on the beaches, we shall fight on the landing grounds, we shall fight in the fields and in the streets, we shall fight in the hills; we shall never surrender..."

Our thoughts are with them.

Regarding the history lesson:

The Brits got their asses handed to them by, um, us;

And later got pounded by the Turks at Gallipoli (though the Turks lost badly overall in that war);

And later by Gandhi, who simply kept telling them, "You are wrong . . . you are still wrong . . . you are very wrong . . . ."

I'm not denying that they will probably handle their terrorist attack better than we did ours, but I wouldn't assume it, either. Their staunch resistance to the Nazis is an exception in their track record.

A personal note: less than a week ago I met a woman from London, a beautiful and gracious immigrant from India who spent a solid ten minutes gushing to me about how much she loved the city. She particularly appreciated the diversity - apparently 2/3 of Londoners now are immigrants, and the Indian community there is large, vibrant, and prosperous.

It hurts to contrast her description of the city with what I am seeing in the news now. Damn it all.

Of course the Brits don't never lose... It's tough to beat a popular uprising of the kind they faced in the American Revolution. And we had the far better generals... And "losing" to Ghandi wasn't losing; it was to their credit that they eventually came to their senses...

Not to diminish the tragedy that Londoners suffered on 7/7, but considering that Iraq sees 20 - 30 people killed every day due to suicide bombers, we should keep a bit of perspective here.

But I don't see any posts of sympathy for the almost daily occurrence of massive violence in Iraq.

Which makes things rather surreal, I must say.

A truly excellent point, Anonymous. More'll have to be said about this. That's one to stop you in your tracks.
