What a train wreck.

   I'm not exactly sure what's going on, and I'm not exactly sure what the implications of the relevant Executive Order are.

   Gender ideology is nuts...but so is much of what's taught in college. One important idea here is that it's important that professors have the freedom to teach loony theories in order to err on the side of caution with respect to getting all ideas on the table.

   However, the left has managed to insert this ridiculous theory into many aspects of university life, and it is often taught as if it were knowledge--as if the weird, almost-certainly-false theory were a proven fact. And, of course: this pseudoscientific, politically-grounded speculation has broken containment. It's become a part of "social justice" indoctrination in K-12, corporations, etc. And: children's lives are being ruined via its application. It's run rampant through the culture for the last decade.

   But, nutty as it is, professors should certainly be able to discuss it...even though many will not discuss it objectively, but will indoctrinate their students with it.

   What seems to have happened in the case at hand is that the professor inserted the theory into a course on children's literature, contrary to the course description and despite prior warnings.

   Which is a big part of the problem: leftists think that stuff of this kind ought to be taught anywhere/everywhere. They often represent it as a "lens" through which everything ought to be seen. Consider their recent CRT-inspired efforts to get race and "social justice" taught in every class...including math classes...

But, honestly, I don't really know what's going on here, nor what the implications of the EO are.

To some extent this comes down to balancing harms as between the left's control of universities, its belief that its politicized theories should/must be taught across wide swaths of the curriculum, and its belief that there is no difference between teaching and indoctrination...and the Trump administration's rather heavy-handed efforts to stop this.

One point: for better or for worse, the administration's EO is unlikely to survive the next Democratic administration...
