I kinda hate to say that I agree with this to a non-trivial degree.
Now, it goes without saying that Trump's denial of facts pales in comparison to that of the postpostmodern PC left. There's really just no comparison.
One sign of this is that the left is still harping on Sean Spicer's flawed but in no way truth-denying claim about "alternative facts." The left has flirted with alethic relativism for decades. Spicer, OTOH, just meant "other facts." That is, he said (with respect to the crowd size at Trump's inauguration) that Trump and his team were looking at different evidence than the parks service was looking at. Now, this was dumb--there wasn't really any significant contrary evidence. Trump's inauguration crowd was smaller than Obama's. Period. But Spicer's claim was ordinary, garden-variety political bullshit. It in no way was some kind of relativism. And, for the record, I said this at the time, despite the fact that I was absurdly anti-Trump.
But that doesn't get Trump off the hook.
Firing the head of the BLS because he didn't like her conclusions seems inexcusable. (Though, again, it's a rather extreme instance of garden-variety disregard for evidence/truth--not alethic relativism or nihilism.)
Though...that having been said...there's some chance that Trump is right, and the numbers were cooked. I've seen no evidence to support that...but Trump does have a record of getting such stuff right. See e.g.: firing Comey. At the time, the left said: there is no possible defense of the firing. I said: kinda seems right, but I'm not sure. Eventually it became clear: Trump was right to fire Comey.
But anyway: being better than the quasi-relativistic left is a low bar to clear--too low to count for much (except when it comes time to vote, when the relative badness of the options is crucial.)
