A New "Unapologetically Patriotic" and "Positive" Washington Post? (In Which I Agree With Jonathan Capehart)
I largely agree with Capehart here--not something that happens every day.
What's most vexing here is that the suggestion is that the Post is going to swing from being--largely though of course not entirely--a propaganda organ for the Democrats / the progressive left to being...what? Something vaguely on the other extreme of the spectrum?
It does sound like the Post plans to go from one extreme--hopping right over the broad path of rough, plausible objectivity that a newspaper ought to follow--to the other.
Now, that's coming from Capehart, who's, let's be honest, a leftist hack. And he's likely sore at being unsettled from his sinecure.
But: if this is an accurate representation of the Post's plans, and if it means what I think it means, then I'm no more for it than I'm for the way it has been for...however long. God knows. I used to read it religiously. But I was pretty benighted. So I can't really tell how much it's changed and how much I have.
I mean, why do it this way? It's not that hard to at least make a credible effort to give your readers the straight dope. And that's all we're really asking, IMO.
