Rufo/Thorpe: Cornell Hired on the Basis of Race, Internal Documents Show

So did my--public--university.
There is no doubt about this.
Universities have been hiring on the basis of sex and race since I hit the job market ca. 1993. At that time, there was simply no comparison between the number of interviews male and female candidates were pulling down. The first hiring committee I was on was instructed by the dean to hire a woman or lose the position. Over the course of the last decade, and especially most of the last five years, I've seen job descriptions tailored to attract and hire so-called "diverse" candidates (how an individual candidate is supposed to be diverse is...well..don't ask, bigot). There is no doubt in my mind that the demographic characteristics preferred by the left have been weighed very, very heavily in recent hiring decisions at my university. For a couple of years we were informed that there had to be a political commissar on every hiring committee--but IIRC we alwasy managed to avoid this. However, DEI considerations were injected into the hiring process at every phase: we had to define positions with an eye to DEI, advertise with an eye to DEI, select a long list with an eye to DEI, select a short list with an eye to DEI--and then our DEI-obsessed dean and provost got to make the final hiring decision.
And, after having supported this system for 10-30 years, academia is in a panic after five months of Trump challenging it. I get quite a few emails making references to our current "crisis." Rejecting the very idea of merit and engaging in race-and-sex-based hiring for decades: totally cool! In fact, obligatory, bigot! Challenging this system of politically-motivated hiring: A CRISIS OF WORLD-HISTORICAL PROPORTIONS!!!!!111ONEone1
As I keep saying, the Deep Academy will be as difficult to combat as the Deep State--perhaps more so.
