Is "The Myth Of The Dangerous Traffic Stop" Killing Black Men In America?
If so, it may be the first time ever that Mark Joseph Stern got anything right.
I'm certainly willing to consider diminishing the role of cops in traffic stops--though the objections to such a suggestion are obvious.
But Stern seems to think that the fact that very few traffic stops involve violence shows that the cops are wrong about the danger they pose--but he doesn't note that BLM etc. are even wronger. He also doesn't tells us how often the police use violence unjustifiably. Nor does he compare the danger to black men to the danger to police. Nor does he note that in some of his headline cases (Daunte Wright, Philando Castille) the actions of the victim played a major role in causing the police's use of violence.
Eh, upon reflection, typically crappy, PC Stern piece. But this still may be a promising line of inquiry.
