JTN: Citing Wikipedia's Capture By The Left, Its Co-Founder Launches Free-Speech-Friendly Competitor
Good news.
I've thought that there ought to be a site that de-leftifies/criticizes/correct Wikipedia pages. As I've said innumerable times: whenever Wikipedia "speaks" on an issue of interest in the political or intellectual left, it can't be trusted.
Take this nonsense on race, for example:
A race is a grouping of humans based on shared physical or social qualities into categories generally viewed as distinct by society. The term was first used to refer to speakers of a common language and then to denote national affiliations. By the 17th century the term began to refer to physical (phenotypical) traits. Modern science regards race as a social construct, an identity which is assigned based on rules made by society. While partially based on physical similarities within groups, race does not have an inherent physical or biological meaning.Now...this is a big improvement from last year or so when it began something like: "Race is a social construct..." But the entry is still a lying sack of shit--as the currently-first section on the talk page says in a less-direct way. Modern science doesn't "regard race as a social construct," largely because social construct is not a scientific category. It's a concept of the humanities and qualitative social "sciences." "Identity," in this sense, isn't a scientific category, either. And basically the only people who think that races are things "assigned" "based on rules made by society" are nominalist scum anyway. They say the same thing about species and all other natural kinds. I also like I can't believe they even admit that they're "partially" based on physical similarities within groups." As for what an "inherent" meaning is--much less an inherent "physical or biological" one...who knows what that might mean.
So, this is still a giant piece of leftwing political shit...but it's far less shitty than it was two years ago...I guess that's something...
