Hemingway: The Media Is Just Flat-Out Lying About Trump
There are basically three possible takes on Trump's 7/3 speech:
1. It was brilliant and unifying.
2. It was boilerplate July 4th fare.
3. It was racist, pro-Confederate, "dark and divisive"
It wasn't 3. Seems 2-like to me (though I still haven't listened to the second half...). I guess 1 is a possibility. But the media are, as Hemmingway argues, just flat-out lying about it.
It's time to make sure you have very clearly admitted this to yourself: there is no reason to be surprised, since the media has been flat-out lying about what Trump has said from nearly the beginning. "All Mexicans are rapists"...Nazis are "very fine people"...and on and on. And don't forget: the massive, partially-media-create, lie that was Russiagate…
The MSM is composed almost entirely of left-progressive organizations run and staffed almost entirely by left-progressive people. They have come right out and admitted that they have prioritized defeating Trump. They will lie to do it.
If you--somehow--need more evidence, focus on this one of Hemmingway's points: despite the fact that Trump explicitly criticized racism several times in this speech, the MSM are, nevertheless, insisting that the speech was pro-racism. This is in keeping with a fundamental aspect of progressivism: dogma and presuppositions trump (as it were) facts. If the presupposition that Trump is racist crashes up against his explicit acts and arguments, the presupposition wins. The presupposition is unrevisable. If a cover story is needed to help assuage the pangs of cognitive dissonance, you can always plead "dog-whistle" or some other subterranean, unfalsifiable nonsense. He has to be racist--no matter what he says...no matter what he does...he just is.
Even if you're willing to keep telling yourself that fairy tale in Trump's case, you ought to reflect on the following: this in-principle unfalsifiable, spittle-flecked presupposition of racism has almost nothing to do with Trump. It has to do with the fundamental nature of the contemporary left. The same principle applies to you, bigot. In the insightful words of the well-known Trump meme: they're not coming for him. They're coming for you--he's just in the way.
