Claremont: America Is Not Racist
IMO this is much truer than the prevailing progressive account. Though the truth may well be a bit more toward the middle. It's an extremely complicated issue. It'd take years of intensive investigation to understand even fairly well. Which is why it's a bit crazy to cavalierly adopt passionate positions about such things. Even cultural and policy matters that I investigate pretty thoroughly outside of my very narrow areas of specialization, I often can't figure out. I don't know why anyone thinks this is easy or obvious. But: given the information currently available to me, and my current thinking on the issue: the Claremont crew seems to be far closer to the truth than the vocal vanguard of the left.
As I've written before: even though the left doesn't care all that much about the truth, they do care about harm--to groups high in the "progressive stack," anyway. And the racist Amerikkka "narrative" is clearly harmful to (mostly) black Americans. (Incidentally: the term 'narrative,' bequeathed to us by the pomo/Paleo-PC left, is a term specifically intended to blur the distinction between truth and falsehood--to encapsulate the idea that all accounts are mere "narratives." I think it actually may have acquired a somewhat less-pernicious meaning...but can't tell for sure.)
