Travel From NYC Seeded U.S. Outbreaks
There's also some Orange Man Bad afoot in there, of course:
“I keep hearing that it’s somebody else’s fault. That’s not true. It’s not somebody else’s fault, it’s our own fault.”Except, of course, that's bullshit. It is somebody else's fault. And anybody who still needs to be told that is willfully ignoring the facts. If the CCP hadn't lied about the outbreak, it wouldn't have been this bad for us. And I don't see all that much reason to doubt that was willful. After all, just about the last thing the Chicoms want is an epidemic limited to China...in the midst of a trade war they're already losing.
In fact, I'm very concerned about what will happen when that becomes impossible to deny.
But emphasizing that most of our cases came through Europe helps deemphasize facts that the blues would like deemphasized. OTOH, it seems like additional reason to conclude that Trump's China travel ban did help... But who knows? Everything's so politicized now that I can't help but always suspect ulterior motives. The hermeneutics of suspicion is bullshit...usually...
Anyway, circling back: sure, we could have done better. Everybody could have done better. But that doesn't mean it's our fault. If I loose a deadly virus on the world, and you, frantically trying to figure out how to react, do so suboptimally, that doesn't mean it's your damn fault.
You know who really could have done better? Yeah, you do.
