The Snowflakes Are Triggered

facepalm
How many times is the NYT going to run the same op-ed?
This time it's titled "Racists Are Recruiting Your White Sons," and it's by a Joanna Schroeder...but it's merely superficially different from its many previous iterations.
There's no sense refuting it in detail--it's bullshit like all the rest. I mean, there's no doubt that some people, including some people online, are racists, and if your kid falls in with them, he might get sucked into it. Nobody thinks that racism isn't a problem; but that's an old piece of knowledge. Screechy snowflake triggering is a relatively new phenomenon. It was easy for my parents to keep me away from racism--and there was a lot more of it around then. It was easy because it's easy to explain what's wrong with it. And a word to the wise is typically sufficient. There was no need to resort to this kind of mindless, irrational squealing. You don't have to become an equal and opposite idiot to combat idiocy. In fact, of course, it's counterproductive.
One of the ideas I wanted to defend when I started this blog was: you can be a liberal without being an idiot about it. I'm starting to wonder whether I was right. Perhaps liberalism inevitably devolves into this kind of laughable progressive cultism--or worse. I hope not. And I doubt it. But I'm less sure than I used to be.

As in previous versions of this bullshit op-ed, most of the horrifying things her son is doing are horrifying only to her fevered, cult-addled imagination. News flash: the reason people make fun of the left is that the left is ridiculous. We make fun of the left for exactly the same reason we made fun of the religious right. You're sanctimonious dogmatists with a patently absurd view of the world. You're easy to make fun of. You deserve to be made fun of. It's the duty of rational people to make fun of you. And you're basically beneath serious discussion--by this point, anyway. It's become clear that rational discussion doesn't work on you. We can no more reason with you than we can reason with more overtly religious cultists. That's the point at which people resort to humor and ridicule. In short, you've brought ridicule onto yourself by being ridiculous. Every time you clutch your pearls over a Hitler meme, you reveal that you're just like the religious right hyperventilating about Satan and sin and backmasking.
Furthermore, of course, the left's brought even more of this on themselves by shrieking "racism!" at every turn. A few instances of such nonsense would be one thing--the left's steady torrent is quite another. Your accusations of racism are more often false than true.
Oh and: you use them to undermine fundamental liberal commitments and institutions--e.g. freedom of expression. So, you see, that matters.
As for white men being "victims"...well, I don't think of myself as a "victim"--but the anti-white racism and anti-male sexism pours out of the left in a torrent and has for at least the last 5-10 years. The racist, sexist left is no better than the racist, sexist right. You've actually made these relatively new kinds of bigotry major players in our national discussion. In addition to being bad in themselves, this, of course, plays into the hands of the actual white racists and male sexists. I don't care much about counterproductivity arguments: I oppose you because you're racist and sexist. But it doesn't help that you've set up a system that pushes people into bad regions of the right. Your sons are probably sensible enough to see your cultish nonsense for what it is. But who knows? Lay this nonsense on them thick enough and they may overshoot and end up exactly where you don't want them to be.
Now look. I've wasted 15 perfectly good minutes ridiculing this idiocy again.

[Oh and: are "hate crimes" increasing? Not really.]
