Robert Talisse: To Do Democracy Well, We Have To Do Non-Political Things Together

I like this short talk a lot.
I'm a bit skeptical about the idea (or maybe just the phrase) "civic friendship"...but it doesn't send me to red alert or anything. My inchoate concern is just that it might be better to think of democracy as something that needs to function well even in the absence of any kind of friendship at all--even, perhaps, the variant that Talisse has in mind. But that's a pretty weak and gestural objection, not anything to be taken too seriously.
