Penn Punishes Amy Wax For Her Un-PC Views
I suppose it's possible that Penn is telling the truth about why they now refuse to let her teach civ pro...but only distantly possible.
Then there's this:
The Penn Law chapter of the National Lawyers' Guild, a progressive legal organization, said that Wax's comments were "an explicit and implicit endorsement of white supremacy," and asserted that "her bigoted views inevitably seep into her words and actions in the classroom and in private conversations with students."
White supremacy!!!...which...unsurprisingly...now means virtually nothing. Of course "white supremacy" is used by the left to merely mean racism. And 'racism' is used to mean...well...almost nothing anymore. Certainly nothing beyond white people did it and we don't like it. So it was inevitable that 'white supremacy' would come to mean virtually nothing, too. Nothing wax said is racist. She's got a--plausible--view about the advantages and disadvantages of certain cultures. The left bitches about Western culture ceaselessly. Needless to say, however, that's not racist for reasons.
Our cultural superstructure is controlled by cultists.

The National Lawyer's Guild is unbelievably crazy. As in, longtime arm of the Communist Party, sheltered the Weather Underground crazy. They've found anti-racism to be a convenient mask to hide their otherwise clear malevolence, but honestly, it's unfair to progressives to associate them with the NLG (and I do not want to carry any water for progressives).
That said...the fact that it is so easy to mistake the ravings of the NLG with mainstream progressivism might be a very, very, very bad sign.

Specifically, Professor Wax stated that, “I don’t think I’ve ever seen a black student graduate in the top quarter of the class, and rarely, rarely in the top half.” Moreover, she claimed that the University of Pennsylvania Law Review, a prestigious law journal whose editorial board is composed of Penn Law students, has a racial diversity mandate, suggesting that black students on Law Review had not earned their place. Speaking about black law students at Penn and peer schools, she went on to say that “some of them shouldn’t” even go to college.
It is imperative for me as dean to state that these claims are false: black students have graduated in the top of the class at Penn Law, and the Law Review does not have a diversity mandate. Rather, its editors are selected based on a competitive process. And contrary to any suggestion otherwise, black students at Penn Law are extremely successful, both inside and outside the classroom, in the job market, and in their careers.
I dunno, it seems to me that telling lies isn’t a part of academic freedom.
There's no appreciable evidence of lies anywhere in there.
And you don't lose your academic freedom for saying false things about graduation rates and so forth at your university.
And, of course, we'd have to see the numbers to know whether Wax's claim was reasonable. What she said was "I don't think I've ever seen x." That's basically a to-the-best-of-my-knowledge claim.
I *do* kinda think she should have been more circumspect about these claims. But the only real question here is: is what she said roughly true?
According to the Dean, no. And perceptions aren’t the same as facts.
None of that's relevant to your claim that Wax *lied.* At most it could establish that she was in error.
But, as for the actual truth, it'd be easy to prove. I'd be surprised if it were true...but it would be pretty weird for Wax to lie about such a thing.
Why not put the numbers out there for everybody to see? The aggregate demographic data isn't going to tell us anything about any individual...unless Wax is right, of course. The righter Wax is, the more informative such data could be about certain individuals.

All it would take is one African-American student graduating in the 75+ percentile to blow her personal data to the winds.
