Cloverfield is one of my favorite flicks of all freaking time.
So I receive this news gladly...though with some concern...

This is the most surprising thing I've read on your blog.
Cloverfield? Cloverfield?!
Seriously, what in the movie makes it your favorite?
Ha that's really funny...
I...am not smart about movies, ergo also not articulate about them. I know my view of that movie is out of line with the consensus...
I really like the movie before the movie...that is, the Rob/Beth...dare I admit it...?...love story. And not merely because Odette Annable is painfully hot / cute / adorable... But anyway, mostly that's because I have always thought that most horror and monster movies fail because they just can't capture basically the most interesting / important aspect of the story: the bomb that gets dropped on ordinary life / the ordinary world. I think that Cloverfield captures that. In part b/c the Rob/Beth story is pretty engaging. Anyway...then the initial stages of the attack seem *great* to me.
And the head-of-the-Statue-of-Liberty scene is freaking...well...awesome. I'm actually inclined to say: brilliant.
I also think the glimpse-of-the-monster scenes are great--and the reveal is good, too.
Much of the rest of the movie I'm actually less keen on. I don't much like the bit about shedding the mini-monsters...though I understand why it's done, story-wise. I take it that the monster's maybe supposed to be a little bit Lovecraftian...though I'm not sure how I feel about that.
Anyway...uh...that's way too much writing with no actual ideas in it...
Anyway...it kinda just comes down to: me like.
