Kentucky Secretary of State: "Not Enough Bourbon In Kentucky" To Make Me Release Voter Data

I don't know what to think of this stuff. But, when in doubt, err on the side of privacy.
Though I do wonder: if the request had been made by, say, Senate Dems to check for Russian hacking...would they be getting similar responses? So that is: to what extent do Dems not want to know whether or not illegal aliens are voting? The official Dem line seems to be: there are zero cases of in-person voter fraud by illegal immigrants in the entire country. That just can't be true. Though the number might, I suppose, be very small.

It is my impression that anyone who knows anything about this stuff thinks that voter fraud is a totally made-up problem. This is of course not to say that there are zero cases of voter fraud. I don't think anyone is claiming that.

It is also not hard to explain why the people who are making a fuss about it are making a fuss about it. It seems to be well established that the agitation from Republicans in recent years has the purpose of suppressing the minority vote which is of course disproportionately Democratic. The rhetoric here was often all about states' rights and keeping the feds out of the national voting process! And the new push is clearly all about Trump's fantasy that there were 3-5 million votes cast illegally, which is a manifestation of his well-known fixation about the fact that he lost the popular vote.

For me the question is not 'What if the Dems had made such a request in the course of inquiring into Russian hacking?'. We know there was Russian hacking. Plus, many of the same people would still be up in arms about the request. The question is, What if any other President had aggressively and repeatedly asserted what literally any well-informed person knows to be false, and then instigated a commission on the basis of the known lie? This is not normal.

Yeah, I don't disagree with any of that, really. It's probably not cost-effective, but I *would* like to have this settled once and for all.

I have actually heard Dems / liberals claim that there is *no such voter fraud at all.*

Basically, I just don't trust the Dems on an issue like this anymore. I'm not longer sure that they would not cover up this kind of voter fraud if it existed.

Again, I'm not advocating this investigation, as I tend to accept the claim that there's not enough to matter. But, whereas five years ago I would have angrily denied that the Dems would ever cover it up if it were there...I'm no longer sure of that.

Winston--there are Dems and Dems. Yes, there are those who say "no voter fraud". But there are Republicans who claim 3 million fraudulent votes--and *one of them is sitting in the Oval Office.* Arguments like this *really* piss me off.

Well, I didn't say nor suggest that it's the majority of Dems--just pointing out that I've heard it said--and not just a few times. I used to say it myself, actually.

I expect it's significantly closer to 0 than to 5 million, for whatever that's worth.
