Mizzou Enrollment Continues to Plunge

link
In response, dorms are being taken "offline." And:
This is on top of four other dorms that were already scheduled to go “offline” because of plummeting enrollment. Two of them – no joke – are named “Respect” and “Excellence.”
The...dorms...are...seriously??  The dorms are named 'Respect' and 'Excellence'? I mean, of course that's not the real point here...ha ha! I realize that. But still...damn...
Somehow Mizzou has a good hoops recruiting class coming in...so...there's that...

note, enrollment is plummeting, tuition is sinking, faculty will get no raises, the state is set to cut 9% from Mizzou's core budget...but there is still money for a good hoops team. I'd eye roll again but I think I sprained them the first time.

You know what lesson University admins all over the country are going to take from this: When the para-faculty starts making demands for more funding, committee free permanent positions, mandatory get-to-the-froshes-first seminars, and dedicated square footage for "safe spaces", give it to them immediately, since they can take down the whole institution with an astroturfed ruckus. There will be fewer on-campus protests in the coming years, but only because the administration will be caving in preemptively. College will get more expensive and all students will be kept in a perpetual state of "productive discomfort".

On the plus side, sports will forever have all the funding it needs! Mizzou has many problems, including a state legislature that has almost always hated them, and this was their excuse to go over the Univ of Missouri system. The admin did not react strongly enough to some instances on campus that appeared (real or perceived) aimed at minority students. Then the minority students (among others) staged a loud, and almost violent, series of protests that got a lot of negative press...giving the state the ammo it needed to go after them (all Universities in Missouri are getting nailed budgetarily, Mizzou is simply getting hit the hardest.
