Birtherism
Birtherism and the Birth Certificate
Hey, just out of curiosity: does anybody know why the actual hard copy of Obama's birth certificate hasn't been produced yet? I mean, I like to see the fever swamps thrown into an entertaining frenzy as much as the next rational person...but why not just put the whole thing to rest? There's so much stupid flying around over this that it's starting to give me a feckin' headache.
Some have hypothesized a rope-a-dope strategy.
I have two conjectures:
(1) he wants to make a point. (Since the available evidence is more than sufficient, he'll let the koox do their thing, then produce the conclusive evidence in an attempt to get them to do a little soul searching. Though really, it's not like these people are ever going to actually learn anything...)
(2) he's letting the issue fester because it's causing internal conflict in the fever swamps. Even Coulter has said the birthers are too crazy for her taste. (!!!!)
But is it really worth it? Perhaps it's a way of bleeding off wingnut energy in the direction of the stupidest possible issue? Frankly, at this point it'd be nice to just get those morons to STFU.
Of course, it is interesting to see (er, yet again) just how crazy and evil some sectors of conservatism have become. For example, we've gotten a slightly better fix on what Liz Cheney is made of...

Because why do it? Anybody not convinced by the Certificate of Live Birth will just claim it's a forgery anyway. So Obama gains literally nothing by addressing these idiots, because they won't back off no matter what he does. Jesus Christ himself could descend from the clouds and say, "No, seriously, I was there. Dude's totally a citizen.", but the Birthers would just call him a dirty Jew and carry on.
As the saying goes, you can't reason people out of a position they didn't reason themselves into.
I read on the internets that HI, or the their health dept. or the hospital itself digitized all their old records a decade or so ago, and destroyed all the old paper records, and _that_ is why an original hardcopy document cannot be produced.
And regardless of the physical status, I suspect there is a bit of not wanting to respond going on. Why should the prez join the fray since he's got plenty of proxies going head to head with the birfers? To do so would only make the issue a greater distraction. Since it is pretty clear there is nothing he can say or do, apart from transform into a white republican, that will silence the yap-class, why should he try anything?
I have seen multiple assertions like this one that:
State officials, who verified Obama's birth records when the question was raised before the presidential election in November, again said this week that they have checked and confirmed that Obama was born in Hawaii.
... Hawaii's laws bar release of a certified birth certificate to anyone without a tangible interest. The Obama campaign last year posted an electronic facsimile on the Internet, in a bid to quell rumors then.
Best,
Jim
I believe that he did produce it some time ago. Doing a second time is just caving in to the idiots.

Check the birther sites, if you want to know why not; they've said already that the reason he didn't release it before is that he wanted more time to carry out a perfect forgery, so if it's produced now that would only confirm their views. It would simply shift the call from 'Why won't he release it?' to 'Why didn't he release it at once?', with no reduction in venom.
Not to mention that there are already heretical sects that say he was born in Hawaii but is not a natural born citizen because his father was a british subject, or that he lost citizenship when his stepfather adopted him.
