The Sobering Tale of Lt. Col. Colby Vokey

This is the kind of story that really punches you in the gut. I frequently convince myself that I'm just being alarmist, and that things aren't as bad as I think. Then I read something like this. Important data.

I heard him on NPR as I was driving home from school last night, I believe.

He's got quite a story. Sadly, I know too well from first-hand experience that much of the military is made up of kids (yes, kids) who join because they want to kill someone.

They end up working at Guantanamo Bay, torturing prisoners, because they want to.

Personally, I think it's because there's no Philosophy/Religion education in middle and high school. The real cause may be elsewhere, but given my experience (and I've gone on previous rants about it, I believe), that's my guess at a good attempt at a solution.
