Coast Guard Admiral Guarantees That Dubai Ports Deal Will Not Increase the Likelihood of Terrorist Attack
Just saw a Coast Guard Rear Admiral on CNN say that he could guarantee that the likelihood of an attack would not go up if the UAE took control of ports. He claimed that the safeguards they have in place will insure this.
Important data.

I believe the title of the memo was "bin Laden determined to strike inside the United States".
I am not automatically opposed to this deal, especially if it is approached in the manner outlined in the editorial Lewis Carroll linked to in the comments on "Thinking about the Dubai Ports Deal," But...
Two questions here:
1. How can the likelihood of an attack increase, when we've been told already that 'it's not a matter of if terrorists will strike, but when.'
2. Could this be a politically motivated statement to back away from reports of Coast Guard reservations about the deal due to "intelligence gaps" and "potential unknown threats against a large number of potential vulnerabilities"? [CNN: Coast Guard raised concerns on port deal]
Making a foolish and political guarantee such as this provides yet another motivation to whitewash any attack that does occur. Of course, I think I can guarantee that the likelihood of a whitewash will not increase because of this motivation - since the Bushists whitewash everything.
