Impeach Gonzales

More on the case at DailyKos.

At this point, Gonzales isn't even trying to say anything even vaguely plausible.

In my opinion, this is all a clever test set up by the Founders. Gonzales and Bush are Decepticons, built by Ben Franklin and put in a time capsule in order to put the democracy to a test. The question is: how much unmitigated bullshit will Americans put up with before they cry "bullshit!"? Turns out the answer is apparently: all of it.

It really couldn't get much more absurd. These guys are proving Richard Pryor's claim that it doesn't matter what you say in response to an accusation, as long as you say something. I'm just waiting for Tony Snow or one of these guys to say "who you gonna believe, me or your lyin' eyes?"

I wonder why the "It really couldn't get much more absurd" part of that isn't stressed more by more people.

However, I think you answered my wonder by the time I finished reading your post. It just doesn't matter what you say in response, so long as you say something.

People are just too self-deluded. They just want so badly to believe their convictions regarding reality because they can't handle going through life without solid, unchanging, unbending convictions. Thus, just say something, and people will make it what they want it to be, and all will be well with our poor little self-deluded populace.

=( I'm sad now.

I watched the testimony of this on CSPAN yesterday and it was SPECTACULAR television. A lot of very angry senators were letting Gonzales know that if he did not stop bullshitting them then he was going to face some angry perjury charges. Arlen Spectre's and Schumer's questioning in particular reminded me of an angry dad yelling at his sixteen year old son; they both stopped just short of yelling 'You think your old man is stupid, boy?'

Anyway, I wouldn't fret about this too much because right now, it looks a lot like many people are going to have charges that the president isn't going to be able to pardon or commute. This is the system of checks and balances playing itself out, slowly and painfully.
