WSJ: "Trump Rolled Out the Red Carpet for Putin. He Got Little In Return."

Dunno whether it's just me, but this story seems to contain more than a few gratuitous anti-Trump jabs...starting with the title. If Trump didn't get concessions from Putin, that obviously needs to be reported--that's what we want to know about. And a failure is a failure. But I don't really see the significance of the other main component--that he "rolled out the red carpet for Putin." Is this not standard practice for such summits? Maybe not...but it seems like SOP so far as I know. I mean, I realize that talk of the red carpet is to some extent synecdochic...but I don't think that matters. Whether we're talking about the physical red carpet or whatever the metaphorical equivalent of that is, I'd guess that it's all SOP for such meetings. When Trump invited Putin to this, did the authors think he was going to, what, grab some fake turf from Lowe's and scatter it in a path across the tarmac?
