James Taranto: The Fact-Checker Checks Out

Glenn Kessler, who wrote the Washington Post's Fact-Checker column, has left the paper.

Quickly:

I don't agree all that much with the criticism that fact-checker columns are really opinion journalism in disguise.

Rather, I think they're basically the same as the news reporting they purport to check up on: the Washington Post "Fact-Checker" was just more Washington Post...and it basically had the same biases the allegedly straight stories at the Post have. Now, a lot of the Post's stories, obviously, are biased to the left...but they're not really mere opinion pieces.

That's what I'd say, anyway.
