Michelle Goldberg: This is What a Right-Wing Takeover of a Progressive College Looks Like

Goldberg, of course, is completely in the tank for the left...but I don't really doubt what she writes here. (RCP links to this weird site a lot, which does get around the paywall...but they don't seem to put the authors' names on the columns... Odd.)

   Now, of course the insane left has basically taken over all of academia, and from there the rest of our institutions...and that's been alternatively denied and praised by...well, academia and the other ideologically-captured institutions...

   But one minor college in Florida gets the same treatment from the right, and let the shrieking begin!

   Not that this is good. 

   Because it isn't.

   I mean--it's probably better than nothing. 

   But it's sub-optimal, to say the least.

   What we need is a broad move back toward institutional neutrality by lots of universities. One school going hard to the right is--while better than the monolithic leftist lunacy of academia--not really the answer.

   And sports? Really? Another extremely destructive force in contemporary academia. Introduced, I'm sure, merely because the left hates sports--and not just women's sports! But, y'know, everything that hints at vigor and excellence and happiness...

   Anyway...what a mess.

   Assuming, that is, that we can trust Goldberg and the NYT.

   Which we know we can't.

   So I really should try to find a report from an actual news source before getting all pissed off.

   But there have already been troublesome reports about what's up down there.

   I knew there'd be a backlash from the right. Who could not know it? And, of course, faculty who have watched with smug satisfaction for decades as leftist totalitarianism destroyed academia will now scream bloody murder about this one case--and use it as an excuse to shove academia even further left...

   It would be so goddamned easy to just be moderate and reasonable about pushing back against the left. But obviously that doesn't sound like what's going to happen.

   Thing is, any pushback at all against the left in academia is so rare and welcome...really, you can do so much good by just advancing causes that are not firmly on the insane left... Going apeshit to the right is just such a stupid mistake.

   But, again: a story in the NYT merely indicates that there might be something interesting that one should look into. But it's not an actual news source.
