McWhorter: "Words Have Lost Their Common Meaning"
About 99% of the time, when someone says 'social justice', they mean: a/the leftist conception of (social?) justice. I'm not sure McWhorter's right that 'social' is otiose in that phrase--but it might help to treat it that way. And that's good enough for me at this point. At any rate: I relentlessly push that point when the term comes up on campus. I wonder whether we ought even to adopt some extremely annoying convention like saying "socialist justice" instead of "social justice" whenever the term is introduced into conversation... They've won rhetorical battles with even more irritating and less reasonable linguistic tricks...
