Rayshard Brooks Shooting "Lawful But Awful"?
That's basically what I said to JQ after I watched the video. Or, rather, something like: I'd guess it was a "good shooting," but it was tragic.
In general, though I don't know enough to deserve much of an opinion, I'm sympathetic to the idea that fewer laws--hence fewer interactions with law-enforcement--would be preferable.
OTOH: drunk driving is nontrivial. Were I a cop, I'd have visions of the guy smashing his car into somebody's family the next day. I'm not sure that catch and release--after a wee stint in the hoosegow--is the wrong approach.
Anyway. Look. Brooks escalated at three or four different points, depending on how you count 'em. He resisted arrest, he fought the cops, he took a taser, he aimed it and shot it at a cop. I'm sorry the guy's dead--but he did more than his part to bring that about. Or so it seems to me currently.
