Thwart The Radicalism

I'm not sure whether there's any central idea motivating my current orientation, but there might be, and it might be: thwart the radicalism. Put the brakes on the left's scramble to the extreme even if doing so requires messy, suboptimal approximation. When doesn't politics require that? When doesn't policy require that?
Another idea is: focus on the principles and the trends, not the people and the immediate stuff. The vocal, influential left is going the wrong way on virtually everything--and not just a little bit. It's going to extremes. (Going wrong and going to extremes are largely the same thing, IMO.)
Trump's antipresidential. And God knows what he might do. But he's been pretty damn effective at fighting against the lurch to the extreme left. He's a gamble. And having him as a representation of the country does real harm. But he is--by far, IMO--the least-bad real option. It's either him or some representative of the cult of progressivism. Better to have a boorish, narcissistic jackass who basically lives in the real world of actual facts than to have a more polite, well-mannered, likeable cultist who believes (or must act as if he believes) that people can change their biology by saying so, that borders and nations are bad, that Constitutional protections are quaint anachronisms, and that the climate apocalypse is nigh.
