Candace Owens. Absolutely. Watch. This.

I'm not saying that there's noresponse to this. I'm saying that a response is required.

She is lying. There are plenty of quotes that suggest she isn't anyone I would trust on this issue.
"Hitler was not a nationalist - he killed his own people."

Dana Milbank's column on this in today's WaPo is truly disgraceful. I don't know anything about Owens and she may well be all kinds of awful. But the dem committee members did a totally Keystone Cops job of dealing with her:

First, Lieu plays a recording that's supposed to make us think that Owens is some kind of closet Hitler fan. Owens clearly expressed herself really poorly and practically invited mischevous misinterpretation, but Lieu's attempted 'Gotcha!' also looked embarrassingly contrived.

Then Owens tells Lieu 'He must think that black people are stupid' because of his suppression of relevant context of the recording, and Nadler, the committee chair, reprimands Owens for disparaging Lieu, and explicitly alleges she had called Lieu 'stupid'. Owens immediately and obviously correctly replies that she has not called Lieu stupid, and that Nadler hasn't listened to what she said.

Here's Milbank's account of the entire exchange, from immediately after Lieu played the 'Hitler' tape:

Owens responded: “I think it’s pretty apparent that Mr. Lieu believes that black people are stupid” because he didn’t play “the full clip in its entirety.”

The chairman, Jerrold Nadler (D-N.Y.), told her not to “refer disparagingly to a member of the committee.”

That's it. No mention of Nadler's egregious false accusation against Owens, nor of Owens' perfectly justified retort. Milbank quotes the words of Owens that Nadler completely misrepresented, and then only quotes the part of Nadler's reprimand that didn't include the complete misrepresentation!

I was genuinely shocked at the propagandistic nature of Milbank's account. Even more depressingly, I read through about the first 100 comments on the column, and they were uniformly vitriolic about Owens but not one of them mentioned Milbank's dishonestly selective reporting -- even though the video is right there at the top of Milbank's column!

Totally pukemaking.
