Trump Considers Trying To End Birthright Citizenship With Executive Order

I'd hate to see us give up birthright citizenship, which seems to me to be a pretty cool part of our tradition. But it simply may not be sustainable given the facts on the ground. It would seem surprising to me if it could be done via executive order.

And the terrible analogy award goes to...
He wasn't making an analogy. He was pointing out that doing this would be using the Constitution as toilet paper, independent of 'facts on the ground'--as your follow up post acknowledges .
Yes it is: giving up one aspect of the Constitution is like giving up the Constitution. Which...of course...it isn't. Especially if legally done--which was, of course the case I was discussing.
In the later post I find evidence for the claim that it can't be legally done by executive order.
Bottom line: legally getting rid of birthright citizenship is not analogous to giving up the Constitution...but the president can't legally get rid of it.
I dunno. Giving up a piece of the Constitution without an amendment is just asking for trouble. If one piece, why not another? It isba slippery slope argument tha actually holds water.
