"Peaceful Human Waves" Of Palestinians Aim To Breach Fence Into Israel

I have to say, "peaceful human waves" is not a phrase that is really resonating with me.

Um. If *I* were encaged in a giant jail like today's Gaza without trial, I hope I would try to break out to. Israel has enforced a de facto blockade on the region for years now.

Did they have weapons? Were they opening fire? Did they actually harm a single Israeli guard on the walls?

My thought is that the question reverts to the question of the legitimacy of the border (so, to a large extent, the legitimacy of Israel.)

If the border is legitimate, then it seems to me that it's legitimate to defend it. Suppose a bunch of people say "We're coming into your country, but we're unarmed, so there's nothing you can do to stop us." I'm inclined to think that you get to say "No, we are, in fact, going to stop you, with deadly force, if necessary."

If they still come on after that, then they bear the majority of the responsibility for what happens.

This is especially true if terrorists are mixed in with the population--but I think the point holds even in the first case.

But it seems pretty obvious that if the border is illegitimate, then everything changes.
