Trumpdate: Russian Connections Visualized; Cambridge Analytica Story Looking Thinner By The Day?

I have not understood the Cambridge Analytica story from the onset. As far as I can tell, people are getting bent out of shape because they provided an app to people who could allow the app to see information about their friends (which everyone knows is something anyone on Facebook can do with any app). They then used this data without the direct consent of those friends.

This is what happens on social media sites. It isn't surprising. It's not scandalous. In the few minutes of care I was able to muster over the issue, I wasn't able to find an adequate explanation of Facebook's declaration that they had operated inconsistently with Facebook policies.

The Russia thing, on the other hand... I would wager there's a >70% probability that trump will be found to have been aware of and contributing to collusion with Russian efforts to undermine the US election.

The worst part about the whole thing has been watching the willful inaction and dishonesty among conservatives to defend a guy who belittled them all so feverishly. It is so truly pathetic. What would they NOT defend? They hated this guy. He hated them. He constantly makes fun of them all, and now those very same people are not only refusing to work against him when given strong reasons and opportunity to do so, but sometimes actively undermining those who are taking those opportunities.

Modern American Republicans continue to appear to me as the most abominable significant political entity in America in a long time.

I'm willing, of course, to be wrong, and I do actually trust that Mueller will produce what we need to produce in order to close this matter out. But the fact that a seemingly increasing number of republicans are actually working against him (after actually making me think they were turning a corner by supporting him so strongly at the onset), and the unbelievably terrible House investigation, really have reaffirmed to me the dangerous lunacy of the modern American Republican party.

They won't even fight off a person who is (a) inimical to every value for which they ostensibly stand, (b) actively and relentlessly chastising them, and (c) an overwhelming liar, hypocrite, and sleazebag.

Even considering the horrors of bush and cheney, who went on national television to openly declare that he didn't mind torturing innocent people to death if it meant we weren't attacked by terrorists, Trump has got to be the apex of the degradation of that party thus far in its existence. Seriously.
