Slavoj Zizek on Jordan Peterson

Zizek almost never makes a damn bit of sense.
Every now and then he'll say something that's not total shit. But it's pretty rare.
Peterson is his intellectual superior in basically every way.
Why do people find Jordan Peterson so convincing? Because--with respect to transgender madness, anyway--he's almost entirely right. Zizek is right that the left is full of shit on this stuff...but that's of secondary importance.

To be honest, and with no background in law, my first reaction was "That's kinda...odd or racist". I didn't blow my lid, since I rarely do, but given this administration's statements/inclinations I was not inclined to give them the benefit of the doubt. Nor sessions for that matter if one looks at his history. However, I kept my mouth shut until I knew more, and now realize it probably wasn't meant to be racist. Though these idiots ought to realize every utterance is going to be gone over. Seriously.

This is the first blurb I've read on this blog, so I'm going to assume the entire thing is a troll-y farce.

I come late to this question, but allow me!
Zizek is one of the most brilliant heterodox thinkers of our time and honestly can not understand why he came out with such a poor text on J Peterson. I would put to you that Zizek is fundamentally closer to Peterson than it would seem, thus the respite from Peterson on surprise for such a poor text.
Zizek is pretty much fed up of the liberal progressives childness and intelectual indigence that he could honestly endorse much of Peterson work.
The insteresting part of it is that they could not debate on adversarial plans on the fundamental cultural perplexities of our time. I much admire both, and despite being politically closer to Peterson he is no match for the intelectual depth and brilliance of heterodox think that Zizek possesses. If we remove the mythological animus and apotheàthic mysticism of the communist hypothesis from Zizek, he could much be representing the emerging rightwing nationalist that is needed to correct current trends Nation destruction in the west.

Anon, and J,

I can't agree about Zizek...I've heard him say some smart things here and there, but, overall, most of what I've read from him is, IMO, borderline incoherent. Perhaps he's just really, really, really heterodox...but that's not the way it seems to me.

Peterson, OTOH, is pretty good. He's not world-historical genius by any stretch of the imagination...but he's pretty solid. He's got some sensible things to say about political correctness and "trans" ideology, and also about some fundamentally important things in human life. He's a psychologist, and that shows...but he's a pretty sensible psychologist.

That's my take on the two, anyway.

Peterson's an in the closet Christian, status quo apologist, pro capitalist, believes in anti semitic "cultural marxist" conspiracies, adored by the Alt Right and Trump fans, spends all his time trolling feminists, is famous for not understanding a law on gender pronouns, and is has a fear of postmodernism, a movement he has never understood, and fears because all contemporary postmodernist findings (neuroscience, quantum physics etc) destabalize his very old-fashioned world view.

Zizek, in contrast, is an anti-capitalist, Marxist, radical postmodernist, atheist and strict materialist. He rightfully sees all identity politics as a capitalist con-game. The two men have absolutely nothing in common.

Peterson's a pretty smart, reasonable dude who rightly sees that the postpostmodern mish-mash (including much of critical theory) is a philosophical disaster. He's mostly right about the "trans" pronoun nonsense, and he's got at least *some* interesting things to say about the derangement of contemporary society. Quantum physics has nothing at all to do with postmodernism. And you can call *bullshit* on critical theory without being antisemitic (I do, and am not).

Zizek is a bullshit artist who seems (possibly largely by chance) to be right about some anti-PC stuff. I've got little sympathy with anti-capitalists, and almost none with Marxists. And hard-core materialism is probably worse than theism. Nobody who knows anything about contemporary physics can be a materialist. Seems to me that physics is indicating to us that there may be no matter at all...

So anyway, looks like we come at this from very different perspectives...
